SKITTLES
PRIDE MURAL
LET YOUR COLOURS SHINE!
We were tasked with bringing the Mars Wrigley Skittles brand to life through a vibrant mural concept, building on Skittles’ long-standing association with supporting LGBTQ+ communities and Pride celebrations.
The brief was ambitious, asking us to work with an extremely complex illustration made up of hundreds of individual characters, each representing different walks of life and unified through the rainbow colours of the LGBTQ+ flag. While rich in meaning, it quickly became clear that the level of detail in the original image would be impossible to reproduce at scale and would risk losing the bold visual impact.
With that in mind, we re-imagined the artwork by carefully selecting a small number of characters from the original illustration and redrawing them to a high quality for the rescaling and enlargement, to create a powerful yet readable snapshot of diversity. Each character represented a different kind of person, unified by the rainbow palette to celebrate inclusion, individuality, and community. To inject a sense of fun and brand personality, we incorporated Skittles’ iconic sweets, bursting across the mural, giving a clear connection back to the Skittles brand.
Once our final design was approved, it was handed over to the talented team at Mural Republic, who brought our vision to life across two large walls in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, just in time for the Manchester Pride event.
The finished mural quickly became a focal point of the area, drawing crowds and capturing attention throughout the celebrations. It served not only as a bold statement of support for Pride, but also as the backdrop for countless selfies, cementing its place as a memorable and widely shared moment during the event.
